Interim CEO and Registrar's Report and Updates

Council heard updates on several strategic priorities, including the Nurse Practitioner Modernization Roadmap, registration processes and continuous improvement of regulatory systems. Highlights included ongoing collaboration with system partners and progress on strategic initiatives.

NURSYS Update & Decision

In March 2025, Council voted to not implement the NURSYS database, launched by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NSCBN). Council had a comprehensive discussion and voted to direct CRNA staff to conduct a comprehensive assessment of NURSYS to present at the December 2026 Council meeting.

Finance & Audit Committee

Council voted to approve the FY2027 Annual Plan. The forward-looking plan outlines the CRNA’s strategic investment initiatives and enterprise project portfolio for the coming fiscal year, aligning organizational priorities with the Regulatory Excellence Framework, Operational Strategic Priorities and Right-touch Relational Regulation. The plan emphasizes efficiency, risk assessment, financial viability, innovation and proactive engagement with system partners to support regulatory excellence and advance the CRNA’s mission of protecting and serving the public interest.

Council approved the FY2027 Operating Budget and Capital & Intangible Assets Budget. The budgets support the CRNA’s ongoing investment in regulatory excellence, including core regulatory work, workforce development, technology, automation and evidence-informed decision making. Aligned with the FY2027 Annual Plan and the CRNA’s operational strategic priorities, the budgets also reflect the decision to reduce permit and application fees for the 2026-2027 practice year while ensuring the organization has the resources needed to serve the public interest and respond to the evolving health-care environment.

Council approved the restriction of $1.5 million in net assets for the funding of additions to intangible assets.

Governance Committee Chair Pro Tempore Extensions

Council approved an extension for the Chair Pro Tempore positions for Councillor Remu on Nominating Committee and Councillor Worthington on Finance and Audit Committee (FAC), effective Nov. 7, 2026 up to Sept. 30, 2027.

Council Compensation Guideline Amendment: Appeals Committee Compensation

Council approved amendments to the Council Compensation Guideline, to include compensation for Appeals Committee members who serve on an appeal panel.

Prescribing: Standards for Nurse Practitioners

Council approved the amended Prescribing: Standards for Nurse Practitioners. The updates to this standard of practice ensure NP prescribing standards are clear, consistent, and aligned with the current legislative and regulatory framework governing safe and appropriate prescribing practice.

Formal Public Briefs

On behalf of Council, Councillor Eyford thanked Councillor Burkett for his service as Chair, and remarked on how much Council appreciate his guidance and expertise over the years.

Councillor Burkett shared how much he enjoyed his time in the role as Chair, and formally welcomed Councillor Brittain to the role.

Councillor Brittain thanked Councillor Burkett for his leadership as Chair, and Councillor Garner for his expertise as Vice Chair.

She shared that she plans to build on the vision and contributions of leaders before her; leading Council based on their shared core values and data-supported decisions to keep pace with changes in the health-care ecosystem and create the kind of environment that allows the CRNA to succeed. 

Internationally Educated Nurses Process Review

Council requested that the CRNA conduct a review of its internationally educated nurse (IEN) registration processes and related complaints data, and bring back the findings to a future Council meeting.
