Reminder: Supervision Required for Graduate Nurses and Graduate Nurse Practitioners

Individuals practising under the title of graduate nurse (GN) or graduate nurse practitioner (GNP) hold provisional permits and must be supervised in their work.

Provisional permits allow these individuals to practise under the titles of GN and GNP for up to a total of 12 months, following graduation or application completion, before they pass the applicable registration exam for their designation.

Anyone with a provisional permit works under the Supervision Standards to ensure patient safety — GNs and GNPs must practise under supervision and they are not allowed to perform certain activities.

Employers with questions related to provisional permits may reach out to the CRNA's Practice Guidance team.

Council Highlights from December 2025

New Registrant Portal Coming Soon

The CRNA’s applicant and registrant portal, College Connect, will soon undergo a transformation to provide a better user experience, as a result of registrant feedback. Effective late January 2026, users can expect to see a new look and feel on the College Connect website.

To complete this update, there will be a system outage starting in mid-January 2026, during which College Connect and the Nurse Verification Tool For Employers will be inaccessible. During the planned outage, the public nurse verification tool (single permit search) and the CRNA’s customer service team will remain available. More information on the exact duration of the outage will be provided in January.

You may reach the customer service team by email at registration@nurses.ab.ca or by telephone at 1-800-252-9392.

CRNA Holiday Office Closure

The CRNA’s office will be closed from Dec. 24, 2025 to Jan. 1, 2026 for a holiday break. Our office will reopen on Jan. 2, 2026.

Happy holidays!
